I recently was invited into the organizational development meeting of a company that I admire greatly. This company helps some big wigs in the Northeast and I felt really lucky to be a fly on the wall as they discussed their “behind the scenes.”
One of the things that the moderator kept saying was, “Measure what you treasure.” To put it in terms of chiropractic care, you want to measure what you want more of:
new patients
office visits
collections
lifetime patients
amount collected per visit
When I think of this phrase, “measure what you treasure”, I think of the reticular activating system in the brain. One of its major functions is to control the focus of the brain. It is a switch that can turn on what you take in or turn it off and tune it out. For example, a mother could be in a large crowd with many voices and conversations going on, but she will be able to hear her baby or child over the din. Or if you recently purchased a car that you were hardly aware of, you will suddenly see it everywhere.
You can put this little brain knowledge to work in your practice by getting your reticular activating system to go to work for you and start measuring your positive results.
I began recently measuring how many practice members put money into a Health Savings Plan or Flex Spending Account to pay for next year’s chiropractic care. I like measuring our long term impact in our community. Two years ago, I decided that a goal for our office would be to have 100 families doing this. We are getting close and may acheive this goal this year!!
This is a great time of year to post flyers that say, “Invest in your health” and “Your health is your wealth.” with reminders that it is that time of year: time to put aside flex spending and health savings money!” Post research studies on the cost efficiency of chiropractic care, increasing the VALUE of your care.
